Advanced Leadership Class

My advanced leadership class and FCCLA members at Pleasant Hope High School working on their STAR Events. They are excited and nervous about competing at the State Leadership Conference in Columbia, Missouri in March.

STAR Events

Since November, the six students enrolled in Advanced Leadership and who are FCCLA club members have been working on partner competitive STAR Events. STAR Events are Students Taking Action with Recognition. One group, competed at the Region 10 STAR Events on January 29th, 2015 in the category of Chapter in Review. This group helped organized each event our chapter plans, attended almost every event, wrote newspaper articles about each event, and took pictures of  the events.  This group received a gold medal and will be competing in the State STAR Events competition this March. The second group, competed at the Region 10 STAR Events in the category of National Programs in Action. These two students planned two checkpoints for seat belt safety, they invited a guest speaker from Mercy Injury Prevention to talk to the student body about the safety of wearing your seat belt, they created a video about seat belt safety, and gave everyone in the school a pledge card to sign. Each pledge card was a promise to always wear their seat belt in a motor vehicle and to never text and drive. This group received a gold medal and will be competing in the State STAR Events in March as well. The third group of students created a website for the Pleasant Hope High School FCCLA Chapter. They posted pictures of every event, the current FCCLA PHHS chapter officers, and awards won in the past. This group of students automatically get to go on to State and will compete there for a chance to go to Nationals this summer in Washington D.C. The link to the website is provided in the quick links on the right side of the screen.

Festival of Lights

For the past seventeen years FCCLA members of Pleasant Hope High School have decorated the Pleasant Hope Park with ornaments on the fence and lights in the trees. Before we decorate the park we find out if any community members have passed away since the previous December and make those who have a bulb. On Wednesday, December 3rd, 2014 the Pleasant Hope FCCLA Chapter continued the tradition and decorated the Pleasant Hope Park with handmade ornaments on the fence and strands of lights in the trees in remembrance of community members that have passed away. On, December 4th, 2014 the FCCLA members held a lighting ceremony and invited community members to come and light a candle in memory of their loved one's.

Candyfest

Pleasant Hope FCCLA hosted its annual Candyfest event on October 25th, 2014. During the day, FCCLA, FBLA, and STUCO clubs helped decorate the doors and hallways of PHHS. From 6pm-7pm children from the community and surrounding areas walked through the hallways of the high school and knocked on the doors to receive candy. This event is to provide a safe alternative to Trick-or-Treating and helps the school and the student body become actively involved in the community.

Play for Pink

On Thursday, September 25th, the Pleasant Hope FCCLA chapter held its 6th annual Play for Pink volleyball game. FCCLA held a silent auction for community members to bid on baskets and other items donated by the FCCLA, FFA, STUCO, Art club, and many more clubs of PHHS. We raised close to $600 this year to donate to breast cancer research. All the proceeds from this event benefit the Breast Cancer Foundation of the Ozarks.
